Forestry Tool Field Day

Demonstrations of directional felling, pulling logs out of the woods with a cable winch, chainsaw sharpening and the use of other forestry tools will highlight the day along with guided hikes through an area scheduled and marked for a timber harvest this winter. A variety of forestry tools will be available for sale, and several foresters, sawyers, and woodsmen knowledgeable in their use will be on hand. Using biomass for energy and heat is the subject of a current research project in Vernon County and will be introduced as well. In addition, Vernon Vineyards nearby welcomes visitors to stop in and sample their wines and cheses.
Location: Duck Egg County Forest
Viroqua, WI
Directions: To find the Duck Egg County Forest, take Highway 14/61north of Viroqua about one mile, then turn left onto County Highway Y to the west. Travel approximately 5.7 miles and turn left onto Irish Ridge Road 1.2 miles (pass by the Winery at a bend in the road) and take a left at the graveled entrance tat the Duck Egg sign. Weather may limit some field activities, but the event will be held rain or shine. Duck Egg is a public access hunting area and seasons will be open for bow hunting and small game, so visible clothing is recommended in light colors or blaze orange.
